Deidrie A. Buchanan

Ms. Buchanan is a partner in the Firm’s Property Group, who manages a team of associates in the representation of a major insurance carrier. Ms. Buchanan has experience in litigating complex first party insurance cases. Ms. Buchanan has defended a wide range of first-party claims including: hurricane related storm damage to both residential and commercial properties; collapse; vandalism and theft; sinkhole losses; fire losses; and water damage to both residential and commercial properties.

Prior to coming to Powers McNalis Torres Teebagy Luongo, Ms. Buchanan worked as in-house counsel for an insurance defense firm, where she represented the carrier in personal injury protection cases.

Ms. Buchanan graduated from Boston University School of Law in May 2006. While Ms. Buchanan was in law school she worked as a legal intern at MetLife Auto & Home. Ms. Buchanan also worked at Grayer & Dilday, a civil and criminal litigation firm in Boston, Massachusetts. During her law school tenure, Ms. Buchanan also participated in the criminal litigation clinic, where she represented indigent juveniles and adults in criminal proceedings. Ms. Buchanan also participated in the Stone Moot Court Competition. While in law school, Ms. Buchanan also served as secretary for the Black Law Students Association.

Ms. Buchanan is admitted to practice in Florida State Courts as well as the U.S. District Court for the Southern and Middle District of Florida.

Ms. Buchanan is a member of the Florida Bar Association, DRI (Defense Research Institute) and its Diversity Committee, Insurance Law Committee, Women in the Law Committee, and Young Lawyers Committee.

 PUBLICATIONS AND LECTURES

Ms. Buchanan is the published author of ABA Diversity Summit 2009: Achieving Diversity in the Legal Profession, in the ABA Minority Trial Lawyer, Fall 2009 Issue.

Ms. Buchanan has been approved to instruct insurance adjuster continuing education courses by the Florida Department of Financial Services.
